I got the model of the pilot and got it into cinema 4d and sorted all the textures and replaced the big helmet with the smaller version of the helmet that looks more inline with a normal pilots helmet/visor that came with the model as the helmet I textured from StarBreaker didn't look that good and it clipped through a lot of the torso as the helmet is really long. I did notice though that there was a gap where the pilots face would be, I could just leave it as it is and it should just appear as black in the render but I wanted to make sure just in case there was any errors in future renders, I created a small sphere and placed it where the head would be and then added a new material which I turned all of the properties off on so it was just a black material with no reflection/roughness etc.

After that I wanted to play around with some of the textures so I took some into photoshop and replaced the path that's on his arm with the Microtech logo which represents the planet they are currently on which could mean the pilot is a part of Microtech security. I didn't really spend much time on it as for now your not really going to be able to see it until a later shot when the character turns his body. There is also a kind of information patch on his leg which had information about some kind of fighter jet which I also switched out with the F7A Hornet which is the ship the pilot/'s are flying.

I'm not ready to start animating as the model is already rigged up and ready to go. I've gone into Star Citizen and jumped in the same ship that I'm going to use for this shot and tried to manipulate the game camera so I can get some reference of how the character sits in the chair as I was having a bit of trouble with the distance of the arms/hands to the joystick. I recorded as many angles that I could and then went back and screenshotted some of the best ones I could get and imported them into 'PureRef' so I could categorise them and go have them all in once place for easy access.

I also added some shots of reference with the camera just behind the radar/map of this ship which I think would be a cool shot and I could also do a nice focus shift from the pilot to the radar when the main characters ship shows up on the radar in a later shot.
